The intention of Northwestern Transport Training & Heavy Equipment Training's program is to train professional drivers to meet industry standards and expectations and obtain their Ministry of Transportation Ontario AZ or DZ license.

Our AZ Program:

  • 6 weeks in length
  • 45.5 hours behind the wheel of one-on-one in-cab instruction
  • 6.5 hours of pre-trip inspection (circle check)
  • 6.5 hours of simulator training
  • 104 hours of classroom instruction
  • Road test is booked for you and the truck and trailer are provided

Our AZ in-class instruction includes the following content and certificates:

  • Air Brake Endorsement certificate (Z)
  • Air Brake Adjustment certificate
  • Defensive Driving certificate
  • Log books and Hours of Service
  • Rules and regulations
  • Smart Driver Fuel Efficiency certificate
  • St. John Ambulance First Aid & CPR certificate
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate
  • Trip planning
  • Wheel safety
  • WHMIS certificate

* Certificates are issued upon successful completion.

Our DZ Program:

  • 4 weeks in length
  • 28 hours of one-on-one in-cab instruction
  • 3.5 hours of simulator training
  • 96 hours of classroom instruction
  • Road test is booked for you and the truck is provided

Our DZ in-class instruction includes the following content and certificates:

  • Air Brake Endorsement certificate (Z)
  • Air Brake Adjustment certificate

  • Rules and regulations

What Are The Admission Requirements?

In order to be admitted to our program, you will need:

  • Grade 10 or equivalent recommended;
  • to be 18 years of age or older;
  • to hold a valid class 'G', or higher, driver's license;
  • to pass Ministry of Transportation medical exam;
  • to provide us with a current Ontario driver's abstract showing no more than 3 demerit points.  (If you have more, a decision will be made on a case-by-case basis)
